Golden

This will be the last Frida doll for a few weeks,
as I have to get onto other things quick smart!

(from above)
This special Frida has golden trim flowers in her hair
and also some rich pink ribbon twisted into her plaits.

Her dress is a chevron suede fabric, trimmed with black lace.
She has a grey shawl and gold trim necklace.

To finish her unique look,
she has golden trees for her earrings.

She is very special and different from the other girls.
And is definitely only for display. (available here)
Love you Frida.x

What a find ::

Seeing things. In the op shop.
Sometimes you walk past them.
Sometimes you stop. And see them for what they could be.

For a long time, our eldest has had a gorgeous
inner sprung mattress and storage drawers beneath, but no head board.
We lugged it all the way from England.
And at last, in an oppie - I saw a head board for $10!

Not much choice of colour.
She had options, but only from the spray paint we already had.
So of course she went for the green. (yay!)

So now Gordon and Ella are comfy and settling in.
The white walls are gradually getting some colour from shelves,
pictures and now headboards!!x

Mod Girls ::

I love it when a bit of stuffing around/not really knowing what I'm doing,
turns into something new and different.

I've done the free motion sewn faces before,
but these ones ended up turning into bobbed Mod girls.
Using the felted wool rug, cut into tiny hairstyles
showing all the texture and colour variations in the rugs fibres.

Here they are from the other side.
I always find this side rather interesting.

Turned into brooches,
with colourful backings to compliment them.

Something a little different again.
Totally not planned out at all,
and only able to be done when I'm in the zone!
(do you know what I mean?!)x

* they are over in my etsy store!

My Creative Space :: confidence

I've been working on a few different things this week.
Both custom order dolls and pressies too!
Back to the old thing of :: don't put it off, just do it!
Nerves can get the better of you sometimes,
the only way to get through it is to jump on in there.

{I need to keep saying it here - its more to myself than to you guys!}xx

Designer Daughters

In the holidays, our two girls took to designing their own dolls.
They had so much fun having all the fabric out on the floor, deciding what to put together.
Though, at the same time the hardest part was choosing the fabric!
Sometimes too much choice is a difficult thing.

They both drew out what was in their heads.
Having the fabric choices in front of them helped.
I wish we had done this ages ago. It really was loads of fun.
And no rush as it was the hols.

I love how one has gone for the simple navy dress with
vintage accessories and mustard velvet boots,
while the other has gone for an embroidered dress with
mismatched zig zag tights! xx

Bunnies for the girls

As it is Easter weekend, I thought I'd show you what I've been making
for the girls. They usually have a little easter egg hunt, and this time there
will be an oddbunny each at the end!

I have sewn the faces free motion/thread drawing. Not being much of a sleeper, I hand sewed the wool rug top hat in the middle of the night. The huge fluffy faux fur ears were a bit of a nightmare to sew in, but I had free hand cut them huge - so that was the way it went (hardly ever the easy option). Mustard velvet inside the other ears. The pom pom choker/scarf was a last minute addition. And a typist on the tummy, as Miss 6 has started learning to touch type at school!

So these two are along the lines of what I've been aiming for
 (apart from the custom dolls)::
they are different, quirky, not the norm 'pretty',
but lovable and most importantly full of character.
Maybe not for everyone, but these definitely suit our two!!

I'll pop up some other bunnies I have been making,
later in the weekend, Happy Easter!xx

So sentimental dolls

Here are the dolls I made from this sentimental fabric.

(theres the gloves as sleeves!)

And half a doily as another sleeve.

The largest brooch is now a hat.

Phew!
So nerve wracking doing this sometimes.
But great to know that these girls are going to be given
as special Christmas presents to family members.x
