Softie Comp ::

Here is my entry for the

Obviously I have made a few Frida's recently,
but this one I've tried to make as much like the famous green
photograph of Frida as I could. I used free motion sewing
for her embroidered top to get it just the way I wanted.
Instead of trying to find fabric that looked the same!
Some gold cord and a vintage button for her necklace.
She also wears a black finged wrap, just like in the photo!xx

Waste > Art Competition

I was unable to make it to the opening of
the Waste > Art Exhibition on monday.
The little one and I were not well with colds.
But we made it today, coughing all the way!
The recycled girl did well, winning the textile section of the competition.
So she'll be of to the regional comp in Inverall, after this exhibition.
Hope she holds up, she's sewn down to the cardboard
 underneath the crocheted sheet rug!
Cross your fingers for her!x

My Creative Space

In My Creative Space this week -
I've finished the rug I started on Easter Weekend. It is the warmest rug I know...

... so have started another whilst waiting at the town hall this week, for my two to do their bit in the Eisteddfod (they both have lines to say and the eldest is also reciting a 3 minute poem by memory)! I had no idea how serious it was - with judges sat up high above everyone else.

And I've finished my recycle project for the local council comp.
I had made a saucer to go with the tea cup, but the cup just got lost on it. Maybe its that lovely grey of the plastic bags!

Dress/boots  - vintage tablecloth
Hair - old wool rug
Face - tea dyed repurposed calico
Tea cup - crocheted plastic bags
Rug - old sheets ripped up and crocheted with 10mm hook
Bracelet - crocheted with 1.5mm hook and stitched with recycle sign
Cape - 1970's necktie

PS. Thank you to the lovely Jessi for the beautiful birthday pressie! Thanks for referring to me as your 'twin' Jessi (we share the same birthday!) even tho I am 8 years older than you!! XXX

Creative Space - plastic bag crochet

Recycling...
(started late at night, as you can see from the flash photography!)
I slipped the scissors through the bag, going round and round till I got to the bottom.

Then used a 10mm hook.

Photographed in daylight, on a rug of crocheted sheets.

(just setting the scene for my entry for a Waste/recycle exhibition).
More creative spaces here!x

Swaps and other things...

Amongst the depths of bad headaches this weekend, I've started on some bits that will hopefully turn into a brooch for the swap over at Flowerpress.

Haven't made a brooch like this before, so we'll see how it goes.
I've grasped onto one thing that my swap partner likes, and making that!

And I've just found out about a local Waste Art Exhibition/Competition. There is a textile category for reused/repurposed items. But they are due in at the beginning of June! So i've started ripping up some old sheets and have grand ideas (just thought of it) to crochet plastic bags too. Hoping to use my inability to crochet a flat circle to my advantage again...

PS. Tonight is your last chance to sign up for the Hottie Challenge over at Curlypops. You don't have to make a functioning hot water bottle cover - just a design! Its to raise funds for the Margaret Pratt Foundation Heart & Lung Transplant Trust.x

PPS. Anyway,  I'm hoping for a night where I'm not out in the street at 4am with a mouse inside the vacuum cleaner!  :-o  Fingers are crossed.
