Sunflower

This is my first go at making an oversized brooch - at last!!
I used some thrifted fabric and felted wool rug.
Then used free motion sewing to make the petals and the centre of the flower.
It was really fun to make - something different from the dolls
and the other brooches I've been doing. I hope I have time to try some more!

We've also been doing lots of baking these holidays,
the big girl helped make this 3 seed bread -
which included sesame, poppy and sunflower seeds too!!x

Thread drawn flower necklace ::

I found an old linen Australiana tea towel in my stash,
 that had already been cut up quite a bit
and thought the colours along with the lovely
texture of the linen would be great for some flowers
in Frida's hair...

So did a bit of free motion sewing to turn them into small
flowers and a few leaves too.

I mainly made up the flowers as I went, to make the most use of the tea towel.
There were some smaller flowers that I was able to sew around too.

The leaves were too big for the Frida dolls.

(Here are a few of the flowers pinned on Frida)

And in the end I used up the leaves and some of the smaller
flowers to make a necklace! Backed with merino wool felt and sewn
on a black ribbon. Now that I see this pic, I can see where I
need to make some changes - a bit more red maybe!xx

Making something different ::

I've eventually found something to do with the vintage belt buckles I've been collecting!
I have used some on the dolls before, but the odd few
 seemed suitable to turn into jewellery.

Using some beads from some opped necklaces and also a few new ones,
I've made some necklaces and earrings.
Very exciting to make something completely different,
and also to be repurposing of course!x
