Frida's

There has been many a Frida Kahlo been made around here recently!

Felted wool rug flowers in her hair.

Handpainted faces that all turn out a little bit different.

This top was an experiment. I'm not that confident sewing clothes.
But wanted to have a go at the top Frida was seen in sometimes,
instead of her shawl wrap. I have sewn on some colour and gold trim
to make it look like she is wearing a necklace.

Frida wasn't a particularly smiley person.
I can't blame her, the pain she was in most of her life.

At least she was able to get some of those feelings out, into her paintings
for all to see. And has resulted in a bit of an icon. She had her own look,
was confident enough to wear what she wanted and look how she just naturally looked.

A couple of these girls are for sale down at Gleaners Inc in Melbourne.

(this is the very long needle I use to sew on the flowers in her hair)

And I am working on some for my online shop too.
I really love making these dolls - even though there is alot of handsewing involved.
I think she had a very appealing ethnic look.
