My Creative Space

I've been working on some vintage zip bags for Mother's Day gifts at my next market. On one side they have vintage, mainly retro fabric.

On the other side they have embroidery/doilies/words...

Dollfaces

A while ago I had painted some doll faces onto a couple of brooches. But because they were so small, it took even longer than painting faces on the dolls!

So I have eventually had some of the dollfaces put onto some button badges/brooches. I've only got 10 of each (of these 3) at the moment, as I wanted to see how they turned out.

I've put a couple in my Felt Store and they will also be available this sunday at The Devonport Craft Market. Its their 1st birthday, so come along to celebrate and also to find something special for Mother's Day!

Op Shop Finds.

Now heres a brand name thats been around a while!
The story goes like this: On the floor of the Salvation Army store there was an old domed lid with crayon marks all down the side. It had a sign on it saying 'for display only'. But then I saw the word 'Singer'! I lifted the lid and found this:

After enquiring about the sign on it, I discovered that they meant that it didn't work, but WAS for sale! (Apparently it had been there a while - probably because it had a sign saying 'for display only'!) So I snapped it up for $20 (!) And once home, had to give it several wipe overs to get rid of years of grime.
I've discovered it was made in Kilbowie, Clydebank, Scotland in 1955. So not as old as I thought it would be. But it'll be a great display piece for the dolls to sit with!

These two are having a think about that!

Also on my travels this week I found a couple of mirrors. This is a magnifying mirror (which is a bit scary to look into!).

And also this beautiful little compact mirror (which i have ruined with my camera reflection!).
I hope everyone is having a peaceful ANZAC weekend. When we talked about it yesterday, our little one remembered that Great Grandad had had a piece of metal in his side when he was in the war. We were surprised that she has recalled this, as she was 18 months old when he passed away. It just shows that talking about people and things that have happened, keep the memories alive.

Love Vintage Package Exchange.

My swap partner for the Love Vintage Package Exchange is the lovely Jessi of Mad Stitches, near Melbourne! Jessi makes gorgeous childrens clothing from vintage fabrics and doilies. She also makes hairclips/bands and necklaces too. Check them out at her Made It shop!

We were paired up because of our similar tastes in (floral) vintage fabrics, buttons and doilies...
This is my first package exchange, I only just managed to sign up for it at the last minute! I'd better get a move on and send this, as I think Jessi has sent hers already! Can't wait!!!

Op Shop Finds.

I found these vintage embroidery thread books a while ago.

I don't think they have the original threads inside. But they've definately been in there a while! (all flattened down).

There is a round piece of very thick felt in one of the front covers, to keep needles in (the sides). The only embroidery I really do at the moment is for the faces of some soft toys. I haven't used any of these threads yet!

Press

Thanks to Luisa of Crafternoon Tea and also Sophie Bond for the article in The Aucklander (Herald) paper today!

And heres the finished pink/green lady.
She will be available at Crafternoon Tea this saturday!

I had made a capelet from some embroidered fabric, vintage button & ric rac for her. But she much preferred the pearls in the end! She's not sure whether she suits her plaits up or down now...

My Creative Space.

I've been working on this custom order.

She is nearly ready for send off!

Also on my bench this morning, I'm mixing two pinks and a green for this girl. The back of her head is hot pink. She's going to have colourful plaits too!

Devonport Craft Market

Heres a few things I'll be bringing along to the Devonport Craft Market tomorrow. Some Doily Doorstops - the two that are bottom/left are new! These are very effective at stopping doors from slamming (heavy), and they won't scratch your wood floors as they are covered with felt underneath!

Vintage fabric buttons.

And some more zip purses. I'll also have the new dolls (featured below).
So if you're in Auckland this weekend - come along to:
Devonport Community House
32 Clarence Street
Devonport
Its just a few minutes walk from the ferry building!
