a vintage dress ... to a new doll

I know, I know - I'm meant to be packing. But I just had to do this last minute custom doll for a good friend, whose mum has a birthday tomorrow! This is her dress from many years ago (stained here and there so not worn anymore), with some beautiful folded fabric detailing. She also gave me a brooch to use somehow too.

This is definately not a child friendly doll. She has the dress collar detailing as her earrings. They are quite heavy on the felt hair. So only suitable for display purposes.

And thats the sentimental brooch in her hair.
The silky fabric was quite difficult to work with, so I used iron on interfacing. And that seemed to do the trick! It just made turning her out the right way a bit tricky.
Anyway, i'd better pack the sewing machines away tomorrow.
(or I'll go and start something else that I just have to do!)xx

ladybirds and tutus

This girl is for a girl who loves

flowers, ladybirds and ballet.

Dancing and prancing about - trying not to fall over during her photoshoot!
She has a removable tutu under her ladybird lined dress.
And deep pink ribbons to tie up her ballet shoes.
She's about to pack her bags to travel all the way back to New Zealand.x

Freya and Astrid

A couple of new girls for Etsy and Made It!

I'm unable to take on any more custom order dolls for the next few weeks, as we will be moving - hopefully - soon. (Packing by myself is going to take a while!) If you are thinking of getting a doll made for christmas, start having a think about what you would like or if you need to sort out sentimental clothes to send. Then let me know in plenty of time!xx

My Creative Space - custom made

A headpiece
and a bit heavy on the eye make up.
(who me?!)

A load of jewellery.

And a full, three tiered skirt.
This is a custom order doll - who is going to be featured
at a 21st birthday party!

Once I had the brief and gathered up everything I needed to include -
this came together quite quickly. I couldn't stop thinking about it, till I had it done.  She'll hopefully be a big surprise for the birthday girl!

Its called The Hug Gallery.
Theres some great photos of doll hugging children!
It puts the dolls in perspective, so you can see their true size.

But its also a feel good page. I would love to add some more Hug Gallery photos - let me know if you have any!xx

Get yourself a Hottie before they all go!!

Cam's Hottie Challenge to raise funds for the Margaret Pratt Foundation
was fantastically successfull. The hotties were exhibited at the Open Drawer Studio in Melbourne.

Now that the exhibition has ended, there are still a few hotties available for $25 each (plus postage).Go and have a look, there are some beautiful creations made by some really talented people.
Your money goes to support research into heart and lung transplants.
Thank you Cam for organizing our group effort for this excellent fundraiser.
You are amazing!XX

Bits and pieces in My Creative Space

We've been scraping the paint off the walls,
for a fresh new look around here! Bit of a shock to the system.
Maybe it'll make things seem a bit clearer. (tho I do miss the blue paint!)
((the blog, not our house!))

I've been starting, stuffing around with and finishing a few things this week...

A last minute birthday pressie (soon to be zipper pouch)
for the best school teacher.

An e-reader cover made from a vintage linen napkin for the eldest.
(went for the easy velcro closure)

A thank you pressie for some gifted fabric.

And this is what I started last week,
my first attempt at a crochet chevron blanket.
I'm managing the main bit alright, but the sides of the blanket might be not quite as neat! I am making sure I sew the ends in every few rows, as to do the whole lot at the end would not be enjoyable!

It has inspired the big girl to start her own blanket.
She's even been crocheting during maths class this week apparently!
(only because the fill in teacher ran out of extra work for her -
I don't think they would usually allow that!)xx
