My Creative Space

I  have a huge back log of custom orders in My Creative Space this week.

( 3 brothers )

And have been asked to make a doll of the logo, for a new polynasian t-shirt company. Which means a trip to the Emporium this week!

I've got quite alot on at the moment, so will be having a break from my regular markets over the next couple of months.

If you have lots of spare time today, pop over to Kirsty's and see what everyone else is up to!x

Miss Candice at Kiwi Kindy!

Our visitor Miss Candice went to kindergarten this week with Miss G. They took along Miss G's own doll as well, for the children to see and talked about what was different about the dolls.

They looked at the flag on Miss Candice's backpack and talked about where she is from and how she might have got to our country. Then Miss G sat down and let someone else hold her doll, who promptly ripped off the necklace. So the up side was - her doll now has a purple necklace, which she much prefers anyway. (of course!)

And a big thank you to the lovely Cathie for this scrumptious banana bread recipe. We used pecans instead of the walnuts in the end! It was nearly over done, as I lost track of time on the phone (oops!).

And congratulations to Mitali of NJ, New York on winning my Small Magazine giveaway! Your doll will be in the post tomorrow!x

a gallery a fair

Well, I had a great day at the first Auckland Art & Craft Fair on saturday!

This is the Artists Book. It was very cool to see things I've made in print! Its a lovely book, full of all the info on the artist's who participated, and some great photos of their work.

This is just after the doors were opened. There were so many people throughout the day, which was so great to see.

My table was infront of a huge window, so loads of natural light. I managed to hang a few dolls in the window too, to create some interest for people walking past. Various opinions were expressed about the dolls, which was fun. People see different things in them - sometimes thinking they remind them of someone they know, or that they look like they are from a certain time or place.

But the highlight for me, was meeting the beautiful Melissa from Tiny Happy. This is a Queen Anne's lace needlebook made by Melissa, with hand embroidered wool, wool felt and Liberty lawn.
The embroidery is so delicate, this photo does not do it justice!

Isn't the Liberty lining gorgeous?! Melissa also sneaked this gorgeous wee clover brooch into my bag - thank you so much!

Thank you also to Kylie, Jess and everyone who came along to support us, it was such a great day - and a thrill to hear so much positivity surrounding handmade.x

My Creative Space

My Creative Space is all over the place today. (you do not want to see our lounge at the mo!)
These are some doll prints I had made this week for saturdays fair at the Auckland Art Gallery.

Some cushions for the boys - both vintage fabric.

Some free motion sewing for the girls.

My attempt at a smaller doll (!)
Fabric from Salvage.

This fabric is also from Salvage - it is just unbelievably gorgeous, quite heavy, and the colour is amazing. Its hopefully being made into a set of two cushions.

And a few 'custom made' shopping bags...!!

Fav Fabric

Is it just me, or is this week flying by way too quick??  hmmmm??!

I took the plunge and cut a piece from my fav vintage fabric to make this girl. She's undecided herself - whether it suits her. Oh well, at least she goes with her background. Ha!

My doc sent me to a hand physiotherapist today. Apparently when I had a fall a few weeks ago, I managed to damage the ligaments where the thumb joins the wrist. (I can still stuff little arms and legs - just hurts to pick things up etc). She did some ultra sound therapy on it, and strapped my hand up with a lovely soft/flexible thing. I've got to let it heal more before doing any exercises - supposed to be resting it. Which is very difficult at the mo!

PS. Don't forget to enter Small Mags giveaway, entries have to be in by the end of the week!

PPS. My apologies for not getting round to visit everyone in the blogasphere this week!xx

Miss Candice Investigates

Miss Candice, our visitor from Canada has been having a nosey around our place this week.

She found a little stash of fabric on our beloved Ikea bookcase.

After eventually making it back down again...

she tried waking up her new friend - to no avail.

So she tested out her new (op shopped) rocking chair, and waited for her next letter from Miss Amelia.

Night, night...

...sleep tight...

My Creative Space

I don't know what made me do it. But a moustache has appeared on this man.

I suppose that means that hes a man, not a boy.

Oh well, he'll go well with the Mexican/Spanish looking lady I made?!

Here's another finished doll, the lovely hat and scarf made by Jess! Thank you so much - more please!x

Miss Candice goes to the theatre!

Well, our visitor from Canada has been having a busy week. With my two off on school holidays still, her favourite thing was going to the theatre to see 'Snake and Lizard'. Here's the three of them enjoying their homemade pop corn before the show!

This is the Telstra Clear Pacific Events Centre where we saw the show. A pretty interesting building for South Auckland. The children loved the shadowy figures across the lawn.
They also really enjoyed the performance, it was about friendship and how we are all different. Very cleverly done, with minimal stage sets and actors taking on different roles.

Anyway - Miss Candice was overjoyed to hear that her hometown mama had produced this handsome young gentleman last week. Congratulations Kellie, we hope you are both doing well!xx

Art Gallery Dolls!

I know this is probably only exciting for me - but I'm showing you anyway! I've just received these in the post. They are for the upcoming Auckland Art & Craft Fair. Because it is being held at the Auckland Art Gallery, I chose a gallery design for the postcards I will be handing out on the day. I'm so pleased how they turned out!

So don't forget, if you are going to be in Auckland in two weeks time. Come along to the Auckland Art Gallery, Art Lounge, crnr Wellesley & Lorne Street. Saturday 24th July! 11am-3pm.

Flea Market Finds

These are my finds for the last couple of weeks. I found this teensy pretend handbag at our local op shop. There were two others very similar to this. But we only got this one, to see if it was a suitable size for the dolls.

It is perfect on this doll. We went back to get the other two , but they had gone of course!

I also found this wooden lamp base. I'm hoping to get a suitable shade and cover it with my all time fav vintage fabric(thats it behind the lamp).

Some cute embroidery and fabric.

Vintage brooches.

And this fab necklace. I'm not sure if its going to be for a doll or me yet!

A big thank you to Kelly for sending me some lovely embroideries and to Sarah for all the gorgeous vintage buttons - thank you so much you guys!

School Holiday Stuff

Inspired by some sock creatures, the children (and a friend) have made their own creatures.

We didn't have any old socks to use, so chopped up some old jumpers and wool rugs.

This one hasn't left my daughters side - its sooo soft (mohair) and squidgy. She's called it stuffed potato!

We've also done a homemade volcanoe(having a wannabe scientist in the family) experiment. It was way easier than I thought. And we had all the ingrediants in the cupboard.

The children loved it and it lasted for quite a few minutes. We might use a brighter food colouring next time though!

My Creative Space

I've been doing a bit of hand-sewing-on-of-hair this week. Mainly on this doll, to get a different effect. Her eyes seem to have popped right out, since sewing her all together! (as usual - the big decision is whether to put earrings on her. Red vintage buttons?)

We've also made Miss E's belated birthday cake. A chocolate orange mousse cake. Decorated in doily fashion of course!

And I've also started on some more cushions for

Including this one using an outfit from 1977. Any guesses who this foot belongs to??
