Waste > Art Competition

I was unable to make it to the opening of
the Waste > Art Exhibition on monday.
The little one and I were not well with colds.
But we made it today, coughing all the way!
The recycled girl did well, winning the textile section of the competition.
So she'll be of to the regional comp in Inverall, after this exhibition.
Hope she holds up, she's sewn down to the cardboard
 underneath the crocheted sheet rug!
Cross your fingers for her!x

Another party over.

Cupcake wrappers and blue hearts
from the lovely Cathie - thank you sooo much!

So they made their own food at this party!
Fruit kebabs, cupcakes, choc dipped fruit.

Mini hamburgers and pizzas.
Some wildly coloured lemonades!

Miss 10 had a fabulous day.
I was nervous about this one, as you just don't know
if 9/10 year old girls are going to enjoy or be bored!!

She got a wonderful gift from one of her friends,
a bag full of wool!

The easiest cake ever:
tomato sauce - red butter icing
cheese - grated white chocolate
salami - Home Brand fruit bars
red and green pepper - chewy snakes
meat balls - apple and berry fruballs
black olives - licorice

Happy Birthday old lady!!xxxx

My Creative Space

In My Creative Space this week

I'm getting a few things done for a party on the weekend.

As we are now parents to a 10 year old!
She's having a few friends over to do some cooking - fun!

Party boxes filled with pizza lollies, fortune cookies, macaron yo-yo's etc.
(those are teaspoons sticking out of there)

I sold out of girl Koala's earlier in the week. (well - 3!) So have been making some more to put in the Made It store. That long faux fur gets everywhere when you cut it!

This one is Tabitha - she's made from felted wool rug and a vintage house coat.

One of the other girl's was given to our new 10 year old, along with a book I might need to borrow at some point and this gorgeous gorgeous bunny from Beck!

Our little one isn't well this week.
V high temps - trying to get her well for this weekend!

Lots of other creative spaces over here today!x

Bob and Barb

They are keeping each other company at the moment.

Bob wasn't too sure about having a photo shoot with pink flowers tho!

But Barb was well pleased!

They're hanging out over here till they find loving homes.
(Barb will trade her necklace for a load of hugs!)

Doily Painting

With encouragement from the lovely lady who made this doily (brooch),
I had a go at doily painting last night!  It was a very bright white, so I added a bit of blue and green - my fav colours.

I couldn't stop then though, and so had a go at painting some doilies from the op shop. Don't worry - they're not vintage ones!

I wasn't that impressed with how the yellow and red turned out.

But the blue/green combination I loved!

The detail of the doily is bought out so much with the paint.

How do you fancy this for a halo?

I covered the doilies with a wash of water and then used watered down fabric paint. Gradually adding more paint for a deeper colour. Following the pattern of the doilies, its almost like paint by numbers.
If you want to set the fabric paint, bake them in the oven for 5 minutes at a low temp of 150c. (much easier than ironing for 5 minutes!)

So have a go, if you have some that you think could look a little different
 - put your own spin on them.
(probably best to make sure they're not family heirlooms first tho!)

PS. My brooch swap partner has received her brooch! It went to the lovely CraftyRie!xx

My Creative Space

I've been getting some bits and pieces done this week, like invites to a birthday party. Sewed the girls names to a tag and the big Miss wrote the invite on another tag. Attached to a wooden spoon for a cooking get together!

Sewn names on the tea towel aprons.

Free motion sewing the faces on some koala's.
One of whom has been finished and featured here yesterday.
The other guy hasn't got a body yet - can't decide on the fabric at the mo!

She's keeping an eye on you.

Lots and lots and lots of creative spaces over here today!xx

Hottie Challenge

Yes! I've finished my hottie for Cam's Hottie Challenge!
This one is not a functioning cover, because of the threads hanging off and some of the flowers are a bit 3D - sewn seperately and then partly sewn on to the hottie.

Can you spot the couple of threads that are just hanging - as part of her hair?

I've tried to follow the shape of the hottie, with the curves at the bottom

and the flower at the top.

The first time I've coloured in the eyes and lips with thread!
A delicate operation for sure.

The hotties will be exhibited/for sale at the
Open Drawer Art, Textiles & Learning Centre
1158 Toorak Road, Camberwell
Melbourne

July 1st - July 24th.

Proceeds will go to the Margaret Pratt Foundation
(research for heart and lung transplants).

*take some photos for us Cam - will be great to see all the hotties together!!x
