With encouragement from the
lovely lady who made this doily (brooch),
I had a go at doily painting last night! It was a very bright white, so I added a bit of blue and green - my fav colours.
I couldn't stop then though, and so had a go at painting some doilies from the op shop. Don't worry - they're not vintage ones!
I wasn't that impressed with how the yellow and red turned out.
But the blue/green combination I loved!
The detail of the doily is bought out so much with the paint.
How do you fancy this for a halo?
I covered the doilies with a wash of water and then used watered down fabric paint. Gradually adding more paint for a deeper colour. Following the pattern of the doilies, its almost like paint by numbers.
If you want to set the fabric paint, bake them in the oven for 5 minutes at a low temp of 150c. (much easier than ironing for 5 minutes!)
So have a go, if you have some that you think could look a little different
- put your own spin on them.
(probably best to make sure they're not family heirlooms first tho!)
PS. My brooch swap partner has received her brooch! It went to the lovely
