A giveaway and an interview!

Everybody loves a giveaway, so to celebrate reaching 100 posts and (almost) 100 followers, I'll be doing a giveaway in the next couple of days!

And if you would like to hear me go on about vintage fabric some more - then pop over to read my interview here for the Auckland Art & Craft Fair. Its being held at the Auckland Art Gallery on July 24th! Its very exciting to do something different, and at such a wonderful venue. I'm making dolls that will be suitable for children and also some that are more for 'show'.

Flea Market Finds

Don't you just love the scarf?!

These are some coasters that I picked up in my op-shopping days in England.
I love the heavy eye make up and the hairstyles!

And here is this weeks fav find. I didn't realize till I got home that they were mohair! (they were all wrapped up in plastic)

Psychedelic Cake

Yes, this is cake - not icing!

(thats us in the reflection of the kettle)
Its my birthday today, so Miss G and I decided to have a go at something like this!

We just added food colouring to a basic recipe, and it seems to have worked out okay!

I just need to find some authentic fabric that looks like this now!

In the mean time, here is my finished cushion from yesterday! I made it up as I went along. And would probably do it slightly different next time. But the folds sit fine, so thats the main thing!
By the way, its someone elses birthday today also! Jessi and I were pretty well matched with our Vintage Package Swap a few weeks ago - we have the same doily/vintage fabric obsession, our birthdays are on the same day and our husbands/partners have the same name too! So we've ended up carrying on the swap for our birthdays - thanks so much for all the lovely things Jessi and Happy Birthday!xx

My Creative Space

I've been folding bedsheets.

And cutting hair.

And you might recognise this lovely linen from here.
Thank you for all the kind comments about our hiccup the other day. It was hard to post about something negative.
Anyway - for more creative spaces to have a nosey at, Kirsty's is the place to be!

Dolls for Haiti

The lovely Sarah Hanson (Brit in the US) is organising a new doll drive for Free The Kids in Haiti. The goal is to get 132 dolls made for the children of Hope Village. But any more than that, will be donated to other orphanages too.
They need mainly boy dolls, using dark fabric for the skin tone.
If you are interested in making some dolls for this extremely worthy cause, there are tutorials and tips at Dolly Donations.
The dolls will leave the US for Haiti on November 1st. You can get more details and where to send them to here. This is a way to help, where you know that what you are doing is actually going to make a difference!

Hiccup

(doll for a friend far away)

We have one. A 'life hiccup' I mean. DP was notified a few days ago that he and all his collegues are being made redundant. I know alot of this has been happening recently but he really thought his job was safe. It has come as a complete shock.

(finished twins)

So again, we are having to look further afield for opportunities to exist. As its not looking good here at the mo. We are keeping our minds very open.

(PS. i didn't mean to relate the dolls drinking with the hiccup business - sorry)

Flea Market Finds

I managed to find quite a few linens this week.
Some doilys and embroidery.

Some linen napkins and a few buttons, because I don't think I have quite enough!

Some linen teatowels, with various recipes. I love the blue and white on this one.

And also some machine embroidery.

Vintage Wallpaper

At one of the markets, I recently met a 'like minded soul'. Someone who loves vintage design, upcyling, repurposing etc. Christine of Revive has a collection of the most wonderful vintage wallpapers from the 1960's and 70's. She is turning them into gorgeous greeting cards and gift bags. Aren't these original designs brilliant? Check out her new blog here and her Felt shop too!

My Creative Space - Twins

I've only made twins one other time, not long after I first started making the dolls. So it was nice to be asked again! These two have mirror image partings, and have different personalities too!

One likes to wear dresses, and loves pink. The other likes blue/green and wears jeans/trousers. So the one on the right actually has some dark denim jeans - she'll also have a capelet, as its getting a bit chilly now!

*** I'm not taking on any more custom orders till after the Auckland Art & Craft Fair at the end of July. With other projects as well, its just too much!

And this is the other cushion I was experimenting with. A different shape, that I think you could get alot of effects from, depending on where you place the fabric!

Wordless Wednesday!

Something a bit different...

...thats what i keep trying to do! So thats what I have been working on for the last couple of weeks! Something a bit different for my application for the Auckland Art & Craft Fair. They want some original high end creations - the best of what you can do! (aaaargh!)

Its being held at the Auckland Art Gallery on July 24th. And I've just been notified that my application has been accepted!! Its going to be a wonderful mix of design, art, photography and of course craft too. It'll be great to see what else is out there that we haven't discovered yet!

Some of the dolls will not be for younger children, with handsewn pieces and decorative vintage brooches etc. I'll also be making cushions (face/vintage) and recycled zipper bags.

I'll be posting about some of the new things as I make them, and probably asking for opinions too!

My Creative Space

I've been working on a few different things in My Creative Space this week.
A custom made doll - made from the little girls 1st birthday outfit, to be given to her for her 2nd birthday! The little buttons for the hair tie are from her outfit too.

Trying out a different style of cushion.

Got some more badges of the dolls to go in my Felt Store.

And some free motion sewing.
